Color-Coded Kitchen Resources for Family and Consumer Sciences Classrooms
I am not a naturally organized person. I have to practice and keep procedures in place. One way I have helped myself and my students is to keep color-coded kitchens.
But until I am gifted a large sum of money, or run out of things to spend Perkins grant money on, I make it what I already have. I use nail polish, colored zip ties, and electric tape to keep things coded.
As I have needed things here and there I am sure to get them in the right colors. Here are some small utensils I use and love.
I love these spatulas (ahem- rubber scrapers) so much that I went back and ordered this set for myself at home. They are hefty enough for stirring and they don’t have that awful piece that falls off and becomes impossible to keep clean.
This measuring cup set comes in nine different colors and includes 1/8 teaspoon and 1/8 cup measurements.
Nasco has lots of options for color-coded kitchens, but I’m partial to this poster set of colorful fruits and vegetables. The posters fit perfectly on a cupboard door.
Here I am in my “Green” kitchen. You can see I’ve also spray painted the handles for the kitchen but left some unpainted. My classroom is short on storage space, so the painted handles indicate cupboards students are allowed in, and unpainted ones are my extra storage.
